Planetary Magnetic Fields: Venus

Recall that in many ways, Venus is Earth’s twin:

  • Venus has a radius 95% that of the Earth
  • Venus has a mass 82% that of the Earth
  • Venus has a density 96% that of the Earth

One might expect Earth and Venus to have similar magnetic field properties.

Why would I say that?

But are mass, density and radius all that determine whether a planet has a magnetic field?
