Word Skills/Menu
1. Download the second draft "Arriving Home" (this should already
have corrections from spell check and grammar check) and open it in Word.
- Read over the selection. Go to a section where you would like to make
a suggestion for changes (add more detail, change wording, etc.) Select
the section. Go to "Insert" on the top menu and go to "comment".
A window will show at the bottom of the page. You can type any comments
in there. Go to a second area where you have another suggestion and go through
the procedure again. Do this several times in the document. Go to "File"
and "Save".
- Now go to "tools" on the top menu and select "track changes"
and "highlight changes". Go back to the "Arriving Home"
document and go to other places in the document and suggest changes.
- When might you or students use "comments" and "track changes"?
(discuss in class)
- What is difference between editing and revising? (discuss in class)
