My Web Resource Recommendations

Jeanne Pfeifer

Essential Questions that intrigued me.
  • Is humor appropriate in the face of tragedy?
  • How do you balance opportunity and its possible risks?
  • How can facts and theories clarify or muddy the truth?
  • How can humans find peace in a world that couples natural beauty with life-threatening danger?
  • Do museums have the right to display any and all artifacts? (Are museums abusing the sanctity of some cultures?)
  • To whom do artifacts belong?

Good elements

Visual appeal, naviagartion & flow, mechanical aspects were good.

Introduction, process, richness of the project were all exemplary.

Excellent resources for the move west in general and for the specific roles.

The roles themselves were intriguing and brought greater clarity and understanding to the task.

The roles were excellent and help to provide scaffolding for students. The websites attached to the roles were also good for scaffolding.

The task, writing a variation on a fairy tale, is compelling.

Good resources for examples from other countries. Graphic organizer helpful. Information on Ancient Greece helpful.

Excellent rubric for the students to use.

Teacher information page was excellent.

Needs improvement

The task itself (a multimedia presentation) could be laid out more clearly and with more pizzazz---invite the student into the activity.

It would have been helpful to have a rubric for evaluation.

Hints to the teacher would be helpful.

It was assumed that that students already knew the Euro-centric Cinderella story and the students knew the plot line of fairy tales in general and the Cinderella story specifically.

There was an implied essential question, but not an overt one. A suggestion might be: Do time and culture hurt or help fairy tales?
