Locating and Evaluating Web-based Curriculum Resources:
Create a PowerPoint to share your findings with the rest of the class. This is a continuation of the assignment from last week. You will be adding to your powerpoint to go beyond webquests (e.g. webquests are one type of web-based curriculum.)
1. Choose groups of 3 or 4 people.
Assignment: Find examples of high quality on-line curriculum. Be prepared to explain why you believe your examples are high quality.
- Review the following websites (Use division of labor).
- http://www.glef.org/
- (You are not limited to websites above. You may search for others)
- Locate and record essential questions that resonated with you or "spoke to you" (or generate or adapt questions that could be essential).
- What are some characteristics of "good" web based lessons? (This webquest rubric may be useful to you). (Model) Another rubric is located at: http://imet.csus.edu/classes/282/MasterSearch.htm
- Save any web addresses that you may be able to use in the future. (Open a Word document and Explorer at the same time and toggle back and forth. Copy interet addresses and paste onto the Word document. I always include a few descriptive words to help me remember why I saved the URL.)
- Choose at least 2 examples (lessons/activities/projects) worth sharing. (Immediately upon choosing write lesson/topic on the chalkboard to avoid duplication by your peers).
- If you find any ideas or resources for your unit/webquest, be sure to document and save the information.
2. One purpose of this assignment is to establish critieria for high quality webquest. A second purpose is to understand the organizational structure of webquests. A third purpose is to have you begin to soldify an idea for your webquest to be developed for this class. In the next three weeks, "capture" me during class time and discuss your webquest topic with me.
