The Basic Element - Adobe Elements for Beginners

1. You must have Adobe Elements on your computer to complete this tutorial.

2. You need to know how to copy and paste and image from the internet -

  • PC - Right click the image, drag to copy
  • Mac - Click and hold, drag to copy

3. Minimize Explorer, Maximize Elements Click on File>New or File New From Clipboard

4.Paste the picture into the new window and procede with the handout instructtions

Download the handout if you do not have it.

When you complete each action on a picture, copy and paste it to a Word document, turn on text wrap on each image.  Print, email as an attachment or upload to TaskStream. Click here for tips on getting it from Elements to Word.

1. Rotate the picture

2. Flip the picture horizantally
3. Resize the picture
4. Crop the picture so all you have is George (The guy with the teeth)
5. Save the picture as a jpg (jpeg) in a lower resolution
6. Use the Auto Contrast option to brighten the picture
7. Use the Adjust the Contrast and Brightness option to fix the picture.
8. Change this to a grayscale picture.
9. Using the Color Variations, see if you can fix the redness of the picture, make it more realistic.
10. Select John and Paul (the two guys in the middle) and put a 10 pixel feather on them.
11. Use the image transform option and distort the picture.
12. Use the filters and see if you can Sharpen the picture of Ringo.
13. Experiment with the effects on this picture.

Instructions for copying and pasting a picture from Elements to Word.

  1. In Elements click on Control A (select all)
  2. Click on Control C (copy)
  3. Minimize Elements and Maximize Word
  4. Click on some white space on the Word document
  5. Click on Edit>Paste or Right Click and drag to paste
  6. Double click the image, click on Layout>Tight
  7. Position the picture on the page.
