An activity using Graphic Converter
Cropping, Resizing, Rotating and Grouping

Cropping Assignment: Download the picture of the brothers on the left. Crop the picture of the blonde boy on the right. 1. Download picture to your activity folder (Click and hold Mac, right click PC) 2. Launch Graphic Converter,open the file boys95.jpg 3. Click on the square selector tool (marching ants). Select the head of the blonde boy on right by clickiing and dragging around his head. 4. Drag to Edit>Trim Selection 5. Release, save the picture with a new name. (jpeg or gif format if it is destined for the WWW)

Scaling or Resizing Assignment: Download the picture of Gale on the left. Resize the picture to about 1/2 its downloaded size. 1. Download picture to your activity folder (Click and hold Mac, right click PC) 2. Launch Graphic Converter,open the file gale.jpg 3.Click and drag = Picture>Size>Scale. 4.Check to make sure the Keep Scale box is checked. 5. Choose the size you want it to be by changing the width or height, it should change proportionally. 6. Save the picture with a new name. (jpeg or gif format if it is destined for the WWW)

Rotating Assignment: Download the picture of the boys on the left. Rotate the picture so that it is right side up. 1. Download picture to your activity folder (Click and hold Mac, right click PC) 2. Launch Graphic Converter,open the file boys95.jpg 3. Click and drag = Picture>Rotate, choose clockwise, counter clockwise etc. 4. Save the picture, no real need to rename it this time. (jpeg or gif format if it is destined for the WWW) |

Grouping or Combining Pictures Assignment: Download the pictures of the fab four on the left. Combine the pictures into one file. 1. Download pictures to your activity folder (Click and hold Mac, right click PC) 2. Launch Graphic Converter,open the files john.jpg, paul.jpg, george.jpg, ringo.jpg. (Try selecting all of them, shift click, and dragging to Graphic Converter icon.) 3. Create a new file, Click and drag =File>New, make sure it is big enough. The default is usually 640x480 which will be plenty big. 4. Select each picture of the fab four individually and either drag and drop to new file or copy/paste to new file. 5. Position each picture so they touch, either in a row or square.. 6. Crop the picture to remove any extra white border. (See above) 7. Save the picture with an appropriate name. (jpeg or gif format if it is destined for the WWW) |
Final Task: Combine your saved graphics into an Appleworks(Claris) file or Word file. Put a label on each picture, put your name on it and print. |
