Mission Powerpoint Technology Lesson

VITAL INFORMATION
Subject(s):
History, Social Studies

Topic or Unit of Study:
This is a Technology lesson infused with a history lesson.

Grade/Level:
4

Objective:
Students will learn to create a powerpoint presentation using the information they have from their Mission Newsletter Technology Lesson.

Summary:
Students will utilize the information they have researched and used to create their Mission Newsletter. They will use this same information to create 10-12 slides of a Powerpoint presentation. Each presentation will be shown to the class.

IMPLEMENTATION
Learning Context:
The students have already researched their specific mission. They have a work sheet with six headings and have written the appropriate information below each heading. They have already downloaded graphics/images from the internet or scanned visuals and have these in their computer folders. They will now take this information and create a Powerpoint presentation with this information that they will present to the class upon completion.

Procedure:
1. The first day students will create 10 to 12 slides for their presentation. They will create different backgrounds as desired. They can begin to create their introductory slide using Word Art.
2. The second day students will insert their visuals onto their various slides. They will size their visuals to fit the desired area. Students may create up to 2 slides that have only text or only visuals. All other slides will have both text and visuals.
3. The third day students will insert text boxes on to their various slides. They will begin to type in their text. Students can experiment using different font styles, sizes, and colors. They will rearrange the slide order as needed. They may change the backgrounds as needed.
4. The fourth day students will finish up with preparing their slides and will have an opportunity to experiment with transitions and animation.
5. The fifth day the students who have not finished creating their presentations will finish up using extra computer time to accomplish this. Students who are finished will help those who are not finished yet or work on an alternate activity supplied by the teacher.
6. The sixth day the the students will show their presentations. If any students have not yet finished they will be assigned a "computer buddy" to help them accomplish this and they will be given extra computer time to do so.
7. The seventh day all remaining presentations will be shown.
