Information about Geology 8T Quiz 3
Quiz 3 is about resources, rocks in general and igneous rocks more specifically – it will be helpful to read about resourcees on p.31-32, rocks versus minerals on p. 39, and igneous rocks on p.45-47. I will pick 3 of the following questions to ask you:
- Give an example of two products classified under physical – name the product, the mineral used in that product, and explain the physical property of that mineral that makes it so useful in that product. A definition of the physical category is given on p.32 of your lab manual, the Everyday Minerals handout (on a half sheet) that you got in class may help you as well- a pdf of this half sheet is available on SacCT - go to the 8T SacCt web site and click on 'pdf doucments' in the left hand side bar.

- What is the biggest use of mineral resources in the United States every year (see the picture on p.38) – what is this used for?
- You are looking at the Geology 8T mineral collection with your kid sister, Alice. Alice picks up galena and admires its gleaming metallic sides and cubic form. She says to you "Hey, what's the name of this rock?" Explain to Alice why galena is a mineral NOT a rock. Be sure to include the difference between a mineral and a rock in your explanation.
