Week 9: Thermal Energy and the Earth-Sun Relationship
This week's activities:
- Thermal Energy at the Earth's Surface (p.190-195)
- Solar Heating and the Angle of Sunlight (p.196-205)
Everything you need to know for these activities is in your manual - there is a lot of useful background knowledge on p190-193 and p.196-198, I would read that if I were you.
The images used for the Noticing and Wondering part of Thermal Energy at the Earth's Surface are available on the SacCT website (click on pdf documents in the left side bar). A pdf of the powerpoint usedfor the Thermal Energy at the Earth's Surface activity is also on SacCT (on the pdf documents page).
If you miss week 9:
Look over the activities in your manual to get a feel for the material covered this week. Contact Dr. Munn to arrange to make up the quiz that you missed (this must be done sometime before the next class). Worksheets collected for this lab will be listed on the Lab Schedule page and must be turned within a week. Click here for the syllabus information about missing class. Here are more specifics about the worksheets that were collected:
- p.195 in your lab manual (notice and wonder chart) Note that Instead of looking at graph 1 for statement 1, we looked at earth images
In order to do this chart you need the statements and figures:
- go to SacCT, click on 'pdf documents' in the left side bar
- download the pdf of the power point for week 9 - statement 1 and statement 2 are in this pdf
- download the maps and images for noticing and wondering
- Please note: the earth images for statement 1, are menat to show the variable stuff that covers the surface of the earth. You do NOT need to comment about every single picture as you fill out p.195. It may help to compare pictures as you wonder how temperature varies among them and why.
