This is a simple quiz that should be taken to confirm that you understand the basic concepts of the PageMill web site authoring application. Check each box to indicate that you understand and can apply these concepts. If you find that you do not understand any of the concepts or procedures below, ask right away. Your understanding at this point will affect the way your site looks next week when you upload and present your final product.

Making a Web Site Folder or Directory:

• Did you create a place on the server where you will save your site?
• Is your entire site located within your web site folder or directory?
• Are all your images within your site folder or directory?

Page Title and Document Name are different concepts:

• Do you know how to make a title for each page?
  • This is the page title that will appear in the Netscape or Explorer Title Bar. Look at the Title Bar right now and you will see it!
  • Notice that the title may be written with capital letters and spaces.
  • By ignoring this step, your pages will appear as Untitled Documents.
• Your Document Name is different than your Page Title.
• Do you always save your documents in lowercase?
• Do you always use .htm after each document's name?
• Do you know that index.htm may be your first document in your web site?

Explain briefly the difference between a Page Title and a Document Name.

Adding Links:

• Do you know how to add an anchor link to a long page?
• If one of your pages is long, have you added anchor links?
• Do you know how to link from one page in your site folder to another?
• Can you make URLs?
• Do you know how to make an image into a link?
• Would you like to know how to add an e-mail link?

For example, click on the mailbox to e-mail the instructor!

Images:

• Are you able to take a snapshot of your entire screen?
• Can you take a snapshot of only a certain portion of your screen?
• Do you know where those pictures go after you take a snapshot?
• Can you use a graphic program to modify and save your images as gifs or jpegs so that you can add them to your PageMill documents?
• Do you save images with lowercase followed by the appropriate extension?
• Are all your images in your web site folder or directory?
• Does this seem redundant? Should I be worried?
• Can you make an image map?

Tables:

• Can you make tables and place text or images within them?
• Can you hide the borders of a table?
• Do you realize that tables help organize a page's appearance?

General Questions:

• Have you uploaded your site yet?
  • Do it! If you need help, ask now.
  • You should upload often to check your site and links.
  • Don't wait until you're finished making your site.
  • Uploading provides you with valuable feedback.
• If your page has lots of images, have you checked to see how long it takes to load from home on a 28.8 or 56K modem?
