Problem Solving with Microcomputers

Course Description:

This course focuses on the use of technology in the classroom within a problem-solving context. Participants will use application programs (e.g., data base management, word processing, hypermedia) and web authoring and programming tools to explore and present problem-solving strategies.

Course Objectives: Upon completion of this course, students will

a. understand the connections between thinking skills and problem solving;
b. be able to identify curricular situations where the use of problem-solving strategies and technology may be appropriate;
c. be proficient in developing problem-solving strategies that integrate completely with the existing curriculum;
d. know how to gather data and resources using the world wide web;
e. have learned to construct and upload a web page or site;
f. have become accustomed to using e-mail to communicate with other members of class regarding class assignments;
g. present the research and conclusions to a curricular problem in a web page or site.
