Problem Solving and Computers
Teacher Education 233 (3 units) Fall, 1999
Course Description: This course focuses on the use of technology
in the classroom within a problem-solving context. Participants
will use application programs (e.g., data base management, word
processing, hypermedia) and web authoring and graphic tools to
explore and present problem-solving strategies.
Course Objectives: Upon completion
of this course, students will:
- understand the connections between thinking skills and problem
solving;
- be able to identify curricular situations where the use of
problem-solving strategies and technology may be appropriate;
- be proficient in developing problem-solving strategies that
integrate completely with the existing curriculum;
- know how to gather data and resources using the world wide
web;
- have learned to construct and upload a web page or site;
- have become accustomed to using e-mail to communicate with
other members of class regarding class assignments;
- present the research and conclusions to a curricular problem
in a web page or site.
Course Grading
- Class attendance, preparation and participation; (25%)
- Research project and web page production; (50%)
- Final examination. (25%)
