1. What is the purpose of this event?
To celebrate Japanese language and culture learning in the Greater Sacramento region through Skit and Speech performance.
We sent out our visitations to 17 high schools, 5 community colleges, and 5 universities.
High School Level: Davis Senior High School, Elk Grove High School, Florin High School, Franklin High School, Laguna Creek High School, Monterey Trail High School, Pleasant Grove High School, Cosumnes Oaks High School, Sheldon High School, John F. Kennedy High School, Rosemont High School, C.K. McClatchy High School, Mira Loma High School, Bella Vista High School, Granite Bay High School, Oak Ridge High School, Pleasant Valley High School
Collegiate Level: California State University at Sacramento, California State University at Fresno, California State University at Chico, University of California at Davis, University of Pacific, Sacramento City College, Sierra College, Shasta College, Butte College, San Joaquin Delta College

2. Who can participate in this event?
High School Skits and Speeches Division 高校の部
- Each school select two (2) students for the speech contest.
- One entry per person.
- All applicants must be non-native speakers of Japanese.
- The topic of the skit and the speech is open.
- The length of the skit must be under 2 minutes. Otherwise, it will be penalized.
- The set up, skit, and clean up should be done within 3 minutes.
College/University Speech Contest Division 短大・大学の部
- Two Divisions:
Division 1 – Less than 2 years of learning Japanese
Division 2 – More than 2 years of learning Japanese.
- All applicants must be non-native speakers of Japanese.
- Each college/university can select up to two (2) students for the speech contest in Division 1 and Division 2.
- The topic of the speech is open.
- The length of the speech must be more than 2 minutes and less than 3 minutes. Otherwise, it will be penalized.

Please let your Japanese language teacher know if you are interested in participating in this event. We need to know your full name and the title of your skit/presentation before January 15, 2016. Your teacher is responsible for leting us know.

Please email Naoko Iwasaki sensei <naokoiwa@gmail.com> by Friday, February 5, 2016 at 5:00 pm about the participants from your school.
The contest schedule will be finalized by Monday, February 8, 2016.

3. Who can come to the event besides participants?
Anyone in the community is welcome. We recommend that participating students come with their friends and families. You can send invitations to your colleagues and/or school administrators as well.

6. What are the benefits of participating in this event?
For students, we believe that this gives you a chance to get to know students and teachers from other schools and universities.
We plan to give prizes (1st place winner; 2nd place winner; 3rd place winner and one special winner).
All participants will receive a certificate of participation and small prize.
For teachers, we hope that this event will help promote your programs and attract many students to your class.

Our special judges for the contest include community representatives, high school teachers and college/university professors. They are:

11. Most commonly asked questions by participants
1. Do I have to memorize my skit or speech?
We highly encourage students to memorize the skit and speech.
2. Can I perform as a group?
Yes ,for skit performers. No, for those who make a speech. The number of people in your group should be 2-4 people.
3. Is there a fee?
No fee. We received the funding from the Japan Foundation, Los Angeles. However, we welcome donations from any individual (including teachers) and organizations. The money will support our next event, Japan Day on Sunday, April 17, 2016.
4. Should I dress in costume for our skit performance?
It is up to them. It would be fun to see their performance if they dress up!
5. Can I use PPT?
Yes, Up to 2 slides.
