I. Tools:
- Academic Planner
- Calendar all major projects and exam
- Break major projects into chunks and set due dates for the chunks
- Set it up where you can see it regularly
- Weekly Schedule
- Schedule all your classes and commitments.
- Schedule study time, exercise time and personal time.
- Look for chunks of time between commitments to use for studying.
- To-Do Lists
- Make daily lists of what needs to be done.
- Keep list where you can see it.
- Review the list at the end of the day.
II. Strategies
- Use daylight hours
- Establish regular times to study for each class, treat it like an appointment
- Schedule a few minutes between classes to review the last class
- Use the little chunks of time during your day.
- Schedule exercise 3X weekly
- Establish a consistent sleep schedule. Get enough sleep.
- Get up early enough to eat breakfast every day.
- Schedule time for yourself.
- Learn to say no.
- Make your schedule personal and flexible
- Keep a balance between academic and personal.
- Think about time management as a tool to free you up to discover yourself.
III. Set goals.
- Write out long-range goals on paper.
- Choose five most important goals.
- Goals should be concrete, specific and measurable.
- Goals should be realistic. Goals should challenge, not defeat you.
- Discuss goals with a mentor or advisor.
- Goals should reflect a balance between academic and personal life.
- Post your goals where you can see them.
