Reading Response: The Difference Between High School and College

Questions to Answer:

1. Contrast the nature of high school and college education as presented by the author. Do it in the form of a chart.

2. What does the author mean when he says college instructors "want this material to be believed on the basis of reason rather than on the basis of authority"? Can you think of examples outside of school where knowledge is to be accepted on the basis of authority? on the basis of reason?

3. Given the author's description of college and your experience of your courses so far, what are you hoping to experience in your college courses that will be different from most of your high school experiences?
