Upon completion of this unit students should be able to:
List the types of mass movements, and discuss the speed and components of each
Distinguish between a flow, a slide and a fall.
Describe the forces that act on a mass to produce mass wasting.
Discuss the role of moisture in slope stability- both too much or too little moisture.
Define soil creep, and give an example.
Discuss the differences between a mudflow and a debris flow.
Describe the engineered solutions that might reduce the risk of a mass movement
Describe what is meant by a 100 year flood.
Discuss the statistics that go into flood frequency estimates.
