Test review:
Several approaches will help you succeed on the first midterm exam. You should study your notes, review reading sections from the book, review lab material, and practice answering questions on the old exams.
Copies of old exams are available to help review for the first midterm:
2016 midterm 2017 midterm
You may find questions on the old exams that we did not cover in lecture, lab or readings. You can ignore those questions.
The study guide questions given below may also help you study for the exam. This is not intended to be a complete study guide or complete list of questions. Study your notes and the book first, then test yourself with the study guide.
Lab: Sandstone and siliciclastic rock I.D.
Lab and homework:
In lab this week we will look at examples of clastic rocks including shale, siltstone, sandstone, and conglomerate. We will practice using Folk and Gilbert's sandstone classification systems.
I will pass out copies of the lab. You don't need to print your your own copy, but if you need another copy you can access it here:
You will grade your lab handout in class, and complete a short quiz on sedimentary rocks before you leave.
