Three important factors are at the center of accelerated acquisition of English: (1) the first language and its development; (2) the teacher's knowledge about crafting lessons that scaffold student's acquisition of oral, reading, and written academic discourse; and (3) the teacher's ability to integrate the students into the life of the classroom.
