GEOGRAPHY 145: QUIZ #2 Guidelines
|
|
PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE IN OUR QUIZ DATE!
QUIZ #2 will be given on Monday, November 6th. You will have the
entire class period--75 minutes--in which to complete the quiz. The quiz
is worth 150 points; the points will be distributed as follows:
* 100 points for 50 multiple choice questions @ 2 points each
* 40 points for 20 world map identification items @ 2 pts. each
* 10 points for 1 short essay response
LIKE QUIZ #1 this second exam of the semester is entirely open book.
You may bring any of the PRB bulletins, Internet printouts, or class
handouts with you. I especially recommend the data tables from the
World Resources Institute (EarthTrends) website used for Worksheet #2.
Several questions will come from the Population Reference Bureau bulletin
assigned for this part of the semester--De Souza et al, "Critical Links."
Given the length of that bulletin I'd suggest reviewing it before the
quiz so that you're familiar with the insights for which it provides
"hard evidence." I may provide additional data for your interpretation.
QUESTIONS ON QUIZ #2 will approach concepts and data in various ways:
*some questions will ask for definitions of key words or phrases
(e.g., Which of these best defines "carrying capacity"?);
*some will ask about relationships among terms (e.g., If we already
know a country's total population, which of the following do we
also need to know in order to calculate physiological density?);
*some will ask for geographical patterns of occurrence (e.g., In which
of these countries is water used mainly for irrigation?);
*some will ask for recall of specific data about your "report" country
(e.g., Into which of these development categories does the
country you discussed in Presentation #1 best fit?)
*some will ask you to interpret newly supplied data (e.g., If China's
population used petroleum on a per capita basis at the same
rate as the USA's population does, how would the increased
demand likely contribute to depleting China's oil reserves?)
