CHDV 248: Curriculum and Instruction

Course Description| Objectives| Technology

 

Course Description: Advanced study of the sociocultural influences on curriculum development. Research, theory, and curricular practices will be analyzed, evauated and applied to a variety of preschool and primary grade settings.

Prerequisite: Graduate standing or instructor permission

Number of Units: 3

 

Course Objectives:

  • Compare theories of cognition.

  • Examine the relationship between the various theories and curriculum development.

  • Show evidence of mastery of research and concepts about curricular methods prevalent in preschool through elementary school.

  • Identify appropriate practices based on the research.

 

Technology Requirements:

The online component of curriculum and instruction is being delivered via the Web-based course management system, WebCT. Your course environment is a closed, secure environment. Your class is only accessible to registered students, the instructor, and the WebCT administrator. You will need a SacLink account to login into WebCT.

To access WebCT:

  1. Open your Web browser software -- Netscape or Internet Explorer.
  2. Type the URL http://online.csus.edu
  3. Select Login myWebCT
  4. Enter your SacLink account name for your WebCT ID. Remember the system is CASE sEnSiTiVe.
  5. Enter your SacLink password for the password.

 

Students will need an e-mail account and computer access to the Web. All Sacramento State students enrolled in one or more units can create a SacLink account for e-mail. Although a home computer with Internet access running Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox or Netscape Navigator would be beneficial, students can access the Internet from one of the campus student labs.
