Research
My research interests are currently focused in three areas:
Characterization and elucidation of the role that dissolved organic compounds play in the Sacramento – San Joaquin Delta water quality. Our work on this project involves an intensive collaboration with the US Geological Survey funded by the Agricultural Research Incentive.
The structure-function relationship in zeolite catalytic and sorption materials. Funded by CSUS RCA Award
Competitive adsorption by zeolite materials related to waste treatment.
My group uses a number of instrumental techniques to accomplish our studies. Most of the projects utilize Solid State Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (NMR) However, it is generally the combination of FTIR, X-Ray, X-Ray Fluorescence, UV, Magnetic Susceptibility, ESR, and Catalysis and Other Reaction Studies that are required to provide us with all the data needed for our projects.
All of the projects described above lend themselves to both undergraduate and graduate student involvement. To find out more about these opportunities, please see S. Crawford.
