Profile

Ernie M. Hills is a Professor of Music teaching Music Appreciation. Between 2000 and 2020 he served as Director of the School of Music. He previously taught trombone and music theory, and co-directed the Festival of New American Music. As a trombonist, he has performed with a wide variety of chamber music groups and orchestras. He has conducted for musical theater productions and symphony orchestras. He has been a frequent consultant for the California Arts Council, and served on the board of directors for Capital Public Radio. 

A native of Oklahoma, Professor Hills holds a Bachelor's degree from the University of Oklahoma, a Master of Music degree from New England Conservatory, and a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Oklahoma.
