ABA NEWS - TO AMAZE AND AMUSE

REPROGRAPHICS SHINES WITH SILVER AND BRONZE

Duotone Magazine Cover

University Reprographics has received silver and bronze awards in the Showcase of Print Excellence for all five entries submitted to the annual Visual Media Alliance printing and design competition. Sponsor, Printing Industries of Northern California (PINC), selected winners from among hundreds of entries submitted by Northern California and Nevada print shops and design studios. In the printing category, Silver was awarded for the University Union Annual Report and a student project, Duotone Magazine; and Bronze for the General Education Flyer and the University Holiday Card. Reprographics is especially proud of the Silver award in the design category, which went to Sac State student Raoul Ortega for his class project Duotone Magazine. The magazine, designed and developed entirely by Ortega as a project for Professor John Forrest's GPHD 145 class, was printed by Reprographics. This is the second year in which Reprographics has worked with Design Program students, assisting them in the preparation of print-ready graphics files for class projects, and providing low-cost printing. The award ceremony will be held May 6 at the PINCShow, UCSF Conference Center.

ABA doesn't have any kings or sheiks or monks on staff, but that doesn't mean one can't pretend! Halloween 2009 was the occasion for make-believe in many ABA offices, and staffers took the opportunity to titillate their colleagues with elaborate costumes and hidden identities. From medieval bishops to sea-faring pirates, ABA staff assumed new and unique roles for one day in October.

For two years running, OneCard has teamed up with Wells Fargo partners and others to welcome students and their parents to campus on Move-In-Day. The 2009 welcoming station, set up at the residence halls in August, was hosted by OneCard, Wells Fargo, KSSU, Student Activities, Mellow Me Out, and other campus entities. Surprise visitor, Poppy, California State Fair's mascot, showed up this year to hand out free tickets to the fair, programs and water bottles.

Seems that mascots have an affinity for ABA staff. On Valentine'sDay 2010, River Cat mascot Dinger showed up at the UTAPS office to deliver a special valentine to Freddy Orozco, assistant director. Dinger was sent on behalf of Freddy's closest friends.
