Beverly Wilcox is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music, and completed her PhD in musicology and criticism at U.C Davis in 2013. Her dissertation, “The Music Libraries of the Concert Spirituel: Canons, Repertoires, and Bricolage in Eighteenth-Century Paris” examines the reasons that concert repertoires and canons of masterworks form, weighing the relative impact of public taste and discourse on Paris concert entrepreneurs versus economic and practical forces.

She has published articles in Revue de musicologie, Grove Music Online, anda forthcoming new dictionary on the Paris Opéra, and has presented papers at meetings of the Society for Eighteenth-Century Music, the American Musicological Society, the American Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies, and the Centre de Musique Baroque de Versailles. Her research has been supported by the American Musicological Society AMS-50 fellowship and Eugene K. Wolf Travel Award for European Research, the Music Library Association’s Carol June Bradley Award for Historical Research in Music Librarianship, and a Humanities Graduate Research Fellowship from the UC Davis Office of Graduate Studies.

Dr. Wilcox’s current research interests include the musical life of eighteenth-century France, travelers’ accounts of music in the capital cities of Europe, Mozart’s operas, the links between music and the visual arts, music for the natural horn, and the factors that contribute to the formation of lists of “great” music and “great” composers
