What is Commit to Study (C2S)?We provide students in math or science classes with strategies, tips, and one-on-one support so that you can improve specific study habits. We have four student ambassadors who provide mentoring for any student who walks through our doors. The skills we provide you with are applicable across disciplines, but are especially geared towards sciences and math. We also work as a resource center, directing you to any additional on-campus services you may need. We work with you to strengthen the tools necessary to persist, graduate, and eventually reach your goals.
Why do our students persist?
We inspire others through our Sac State Perseverance Project!
The purpose of the Sac State Perseverance Project is for members of the Sac State community to motivate, encourage, and inspire students. Whether you are the dean of a college, a professor, staff member, or fellow student, we can all learn from each other’s dreams as well as our failures. Knowing that failure is a part of persisting, growing, and eventually achieving, C2S is creating a culture that welcomes failure when it occurs by simply by having others share their stories of how persistence transformed their failures into opportunities to change.
One-on-one mentoring and LASSI
Our strong belief in growth mindset fuels the C2S peer mentoring program!
Growth mindset involves an awareness that intelligence is not fixed, and everyone can become an expert in anything as long as they keep at it. As the saying goes, practice makes perfect. However, it is how you practice that make the difference between getting better vs. academically plateauing over and over. Our peer ambassadors mentor with this mindset by first understanding what habits a student needs to change.
We identify areas where students can improve with the LASSI, an online self-assessment that measures one’s study habits such as time management, information processing, motivation and more. From there, our ambassadors have specially designed worksheets to take our students through some tips and strategies to change their habits and mindset around academics. If you are interested in either becoming an ambassador or scheduling an appointment with a current ambassador, please email firstname.lastname@example.org!
