Sacramento State’s Project for an Informed Electorate (PIE) has scheduled a full slate of informative events leading up to the Nov. 8 general election, when voters will choose the next president and decide the fate of several ballot measures.

All the events are free and open to the public, and will be held at Sacramento State, unless otherwise noted:

PIE and the Center for California Studies’ fourth annual Constitution Bowl: noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, University Union Ballroom. Student teams compete in a test of their U.S. and California constitutional knowledge. Lunch included.

“When Did American Politics Go Insane?” noon Wednesday, Sept. 21, University Union, Delta Suite. A talk by Les Francis, deputy chief of staff for former President Jimmy Carter. Lunch included.

First Presidential Debate Viewing: 5:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26, Del Norte Hall 1004. Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump debate for the first time. Come early for pizza and to complete the PIE survey. Stay after the debate for what promises to be a fascinating discussion.

“Initiatives Demystified,” with Legislative Analyst’s Office Experts: 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, Tsakopoulos Galleria at the Central Library, 828 I St. What is the potential impact of this fall’s ballot measures on California? What do you need to know before casting your vote? Experts from the Legislative Analyst’s Office – they write the official ballot pamphlet – explain the initiatives. PIE’s experts will offer details on endorsements and help you “follow the money.” Refreshments served.

“Campaigning While Female: The Case of the Clinton Campaign”: 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, University Union, Forest Suite. A talk by Meredith Conroy, a professor at CSU San Bernardino.

Election Result Forecasting with Sac State Experts: noon Thursday, Oct. 20, Stanley Mosk Library and Courts Building, Room 500, 914 Capitol Mall. A nonpartisan election predictions panel forecasting the 2016 general election is hosted by PIE, the Institute for Social Research, and the Hornets Policy and Politics Alumni. Lunch included.

Third Presidential Debate Viewing: 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, Del Norte Hall 1004. Watch live as the race for the White House nears the finish. Come early for pizza and to fill out the PIE survey. Stay for the discussion after the debate.

“Crooked, Bought, or Proper? Ethics in Campaign 2016”: 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, University Union, Delta Suite. How did money, ethics, and politics come together during this election cycle? Join us for a discussion with Philip Ung from the Fair Political Practices Commission, and political scientist and money-in-politics expert Stacy Gordon Fisher.
