Sigrid Bathen, Communication Studies/Journalism, is the author of an April 2016 article and Q&A with former California Legislative Analyst Elizabeth Hill, who was the first woman appointed to the influential position in 1986. Hill retired in 2009 and is now focusing on health policy as a member of the Board of Directors of the California Health Care Foundation, which publishes a variety of online media on health-care news and policy. Donna Juarez, second year Exercise Science graduate student, was awarded the 2016 Steven M. Horvath Travel Award by the ACSM to attend the ACSM's 63rd annual meeting, 7th World Congress on Exercise is Medicine and World Congress on the Basic Science of Energy Balance.  More than 6,000 professionals from around the world will come together to enjoy the most comprehensive sports medicine and exercise science meeting in the world.

Mary Mackey, Emeritus, English, had her 14th novel, The Village of Bones, published as a Kindle e-book and trade paperback by Lowenstein Associates. The Village of Bones is a prequel to Mackey's The Year the Horses Came and two other novels in her Earthsong Series.

Mona Siegel, History, has received a National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Stipend award of $6,000. The award is one of the most competitive for humanities in the country. Siegel is the first Sacramento State faculty member to receive the award. In addition, she receives $2,000 in research support expenses from the Office of Research Affairs.

Maureen Smith, Kinesiology and Health Science, and co-author Rita Liberti (CSU East Bay) received the Best Book prize in the Field of Sport History at the North American Society for Sport History’s 44^th annual convention in Atlanta, Ga. The book, (Re)Presenting Wilma Rudolph is published by Syracuse University Press and is an exemplar of promising new methodologies for historical analysis.

Santos Torres Jr. Social Work will present "SafeZONE Online: Creating Safe Spaces on Campus," at the AAUP Annual Conference in Washington DC, June 15-17, 2016. The conference will focus on racial, social, and labor justice in higher education.

Pia Wong, Teacher Preparation and Credentials, was elected to serve on the Board of Directors for the California Council on Teacher Education(CCTE). CCTE is the state affiliate of the American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education (AACTE), both organizations are active in teacher preparation research, policy development and advocacy. As a member of the Board, she will also serve on the CCTE Policy Committee.
