Telegraph Quartet kicks off Sac State’s New Millennium Concert series.

Works by Schubert, Brahms, and many other composers will be presented in exquisite classical music performances this spring as part of Sacramento State’s renowned New Millennium Concert series.

And tickets are going fast.

Telegraph Quartet gets things started Wednesday, Feb. 17, with a performance of the third of Mozart’s Haydn Quartets and Schubert’s masterpiece Death and the Maiden. Formed in 2013, Telegraph Quartet won the 2014 grand prize at the Fischoff International Chamber Music Competition and has performed at venues across the country.

Baritone Randall Scarlata and pianist Gilbert Kalish are next up on Wednesday, April 13. Scarlata’s awards include first prize at the Young Concert Artists International Auditions and the Das Schubert Lied International Competition in Vienna. Kalish is the resident pianist for the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center in New York. The program includes Schubert’s Schwanengesang (Swan Song).

The popular Faculty, Alumni, and Friends Gala returns Thursday, April 28. The evening begins with the winners of the A.J. and Susana Watson Chamber Music Competition. The program also includes School of Music faculty flutist Laurel Zucker, violinist Anna Presler, violist Anna Kruger, and cellist Andrew Luchansky.

Part of Sacramento State’s Arts Experience, the New Millennium Concert series is presented by the University’s School of Music. All concerts are at 7:30 p.m. in the Capistrano Concert Hall.

A fourth concert, by violinist Sarah Chang and pianist Julio Elizalde, already is sold out, and interest is running strong for the remaining performances.

Scarlata concert tickets are $30 general, $25 for seniors and $10 for students. Remaining concerts are $20 general, $15 for seniors, and $5 for students.
