A total of 107 students will participate individually or in teams. Located in various spots throughout the University Union, the event will include 17 undergraduate and 17 graduate oral presentations. The poster presentation session will feature 27 undergraduate teams and 17 graduate student groups.

The day will begin at 8:15 a.m. with check-in, a breakfast, and opening remarks at University Union Ballroom I. Poster presentations will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. at Ballrooms II and III. Undergraduate oral presentations will take place between 9 and 10:15 a.m., and graduate oral presentations between 10 and 11:30 a.m. The oral presentations will be in various rooms on the Union’s second floor.

Topics cover a wide range of interests, from natural sciences to politics to the arts. Among them:

    • “Why Does Success Kill Strategy: An Entrepreneurial Approach to Corporate Success”
    • “Using Emotion to Determine Voter Turnout"
    • "Development of an Analytical Method for Quantifying Chemical Tracers Associated with Livestock Activities”
    • ”How Jesus Christ Superstar Boldly Interprets Judas Iscariot”

The top two undergrads and top two graduate students in oral presentations each will receive a Provost’s Award for Research Excellence and $500. The top undergrads and graduate students in poster presentations will be awarded $250 each. The faculty mentors for the top students will receive a professional development award in recognition of their contributions to the students.

Up to 10 oral presentations will be selected to represent Sacramento State at the 30th annual California State University Student Research Competition, April 29-30 at CSU Bakersfield.

“Taking part in undergraduate and graduate research – and sharing the results with others in the academic community – has a profound impact on students,” says Deidre Sessoms, director of Faculty Research Development. “Not only are they applying what they’ve learned in their coursework, but there also is a sense of pride and accomplishment that comes with it.”
