The Fall 2015 semester has proved to be a record-breaker for Sacramento State when it comes to the student population. A total of 30,288 students are enrolled at the University, compared with last fall’s total of 29,349, which also was a record.
“Sacramento State has arrived as a destination campus across California,” says Student Affairs Vice President Edward Mills.
The new semester drew 3,820 new freshmen, 3,640 undergraduate transfers, and 667 first-time graduate students. The Latino student population continues to grow, from about 23 percent last year to about 27 percent this year. That trend qualified Sacramento State to be designated as a Hispanic-Serving Institution in February and to receive a $2.4 million HSI grant from the U.S. Department of Education.
Veterans also continue to look to Sacramento State for their education, with 118 veterans or military family members being admitted. That brings the campus total to about 1,800.
With the rise in the number of students, University officials are continuing efforts to provide for their educational needs. “Our provost and deans have worked hard to reduce bottlenecks and provide additional courses,” Mills says. “We still have work to do with our high-demand courses, but we have more students in more classes than ever before.”
