ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

Primary funding Pascal's Room was provided by a 1993-94 faculty research grant from the Foundation of California State University, Sacramento.   Additional assistance was provided by Mr. and Mrs. Bill Saito of Los Angeles.

The initial model for the project as well as all of the poems were developed during a sabbatical leave in the Fall of 1993. During those brief months, the Freeport Bakery (Sacramento) became a place where poetic inspiration, triple espessos and raspberry danishes could develop an awe-inspiring synergy.

In addition, Henry Chung and Edward Ramones of Motorsports Dynamics (Sacramento) provided the racing accessories and expert vehicle preparation necessary for the completion of the photographs.

I wish to thank Mr. Terry Manns of the Office of Research for his continuing assistance with my projects as well as my department chair, V.T. Hornback, Jr. I would also like to mention the many colleagues and university units that helped make this project possible: Arnold Golub (Psychology), Michael Doyle, (Computer Center), Jim Molina (Graphics), Sam Parsons (Photogaphy) and the former Associate Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences, Tohru Yamanaka. A word of thanks should also be extended to the 1993 Mills College varsity crew, the Mills College Office of Public Relations and Drs. Jesse Hiraoka and Louise Kikuchi of Seattle, Washington.

I would also like to expess my appreciation to all those models who volunteered to be a part of Pascal, particularly Bill Saito and Jill Saito for their professional services along with my younger daughter, Yoi, who not only modeled but also took the photograph that appears on the author's page. Thanks also to Sacramento poet, Lue Cobene, for recuriting his brother, and to Larry Schmidt for the services of Liz Schlegel. Finally, I wish to thank Michael Russo for the excellent work he did in designing the Pascal web site.

Pascal's Room is dedicated to Shinobu Tanaka.
