Research Projects/Interests ::
General Research Interests -- Experimental Surface Science
I am interested in the interactions of low-energy electrons and ions with the surfaces of crystalline and amorphous solids. I have studied the damage that they induce in a surface and how they can be used as tools to study surface chemistry and structure.
- Radiation Damage in Crystalline and Amorphous Materials
- Electron and Ion Spectoscopies
- Modeling of Ion-Surface Interactions
Current Project -- Ion-Surface Interaction Simulator (ISIS)
A computer simulation of the processes that occur during the collision of low-energy ions with a solid surface.
Upcoming Project -- Enhanced Radiolysis of Water at a Water-Oxide Interface
Working in conjunction with researchers at U.C. Riverside and Los Alamos National Laboratory, I will be investigating how the radiation-induced decomposition of water is enhanced when oxides are present. This has direct application to nuclear weapons aging and nuclear waste storage and clean-up.
