If
you guessed Santa Barbara County, you're correct. This California
Wine Tourism postcard-perfect view is of Firestone
Vineyard
in the Santa Ynez Valley. Visually distinctive because of the
high mountains, Santa Barbara County has wine valleys that run
east-west instead of the usual north-south orientation of
California valleys. This allows for the valleys to open
directly to the cooling Pacific Ocean, and although several
hundred miles south of Napa Valley, Santa Barbara County is
California's coolest wine region. This makes it ideal for cool
climate grapes such as the prized pino noir (and the Sta. Rita
Hills AVA has the most expensive pinot noir grapes in the
country). Made famous in the movie,
Sideways,
Santa Barbara County has numerous tasting rooms in Los
Olivos, as well as top-notch wineries like Foxen
Winery,
Loincourt
Vineyards
and the Australian-influenced, Kalyra
Winery. |
