• Green represents the topic sentence.
• Yellow is the RFD, or Reason, Fact, Detail.
• Red is the elaboration or explanation.
• Green is the restating of the main idea.

Teachers at our school use this program for writing. It starts in 1st grade.  It starts with paragraphs but can be adapted for  essays and whole research project.  In the classroom students use hi-lighters.  In the lab they use the hi-lighting capabilities of Microsoft Word.  Here is an example of a student's paper, 'If I Were a Principal for a Day.'
