PART I: POPULATION

US Census's International Data Base, a site that allows country-by-country searches for statistics such as birth and death rates and other demographic data; see especially Summary Demographic Data and Countries Ranked by Total Population. The US Census site Population Estimates will provide comparable population statistics for the United States and for California. PART III: RELIGIONS

Begin with data for continents/regions at Worldwide Adherents (1995). Then look at the detailed rankings and numbers provided by Adherents websites: Roman Catholics Hindus Jews Latter-Day Saints And explore individual Countries through Adherents links as well.

PART IV: MINING

The U.S. Geological Survey is a fine place to start whether you're looking for Individual South American Countries or for Individual Mineral Commodities.
