Brief biography

Charles Gossett holds a joint appointment as Professor in both the Government Department and the Public Policy & Administration Department.  He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science at Hope College in Holland, Michigan; his Master’s and Doctorate degrees are from Stanford University, also in political science.  He has held teaching appointments at the University of Botswana, Hope College, the University of Swaziland, Georgia Southern University, and California State Polytechnic University, Pomona prior to coming to Sacramento State.  He has received two Fulbright Fellowships, one to teach public administration in Swaziland (1982) and one where he helped to establish the Center for the Study of HIV and AIDS at the University of Botswana (2008).  Prior to assuming full time faculty responsibilities, Dr. Gossett served as Dean of the College of Social Sciences and Interdisciplinary Studies (2009-2012) and as interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs (2012-2014).  He has published a number of articles on public personnel management, state and local government, and African politics.
