High honors await four luminaries at Spring Commencement 2018

Doctorate honorees Four remarkable individuals – a civil rights champion, a celebrated artist, a dedicated philanthropist, and a pioneering educator – have been chosen to receive Sacramento State’s highest honors.

Three will receive honorary doctorates: Alice Huffman, longtime president of the California Hawaii NAACP; Ruth Rippon, whose work has lifted the craft of ceramics into high art; and Ernest E. Tschannen, a self-made millionaire whose recent $9 million gift will help the University achieve its dream of a state-of-the-art Science Complex named for him.

Emeritus Professor Susan McGinty, who guided Sac State’s physical therapy program to national prominence, will receive the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service.

All four will be recognized during Sac State’s Spring Commencement ceremonies May 18-19 at Golden 1 Center.
