Sac State ‘forever in the heart’ of nearly 4,000 new graduates

2017 Winter Commencement With a turn of the tassel, nearly 4,000 Sacramento State students became proud alumni during Winter Commencement ceremonies on Dec. 15 and 16 at Golden 1 Center.

The recipients of bachelor’s and master’s degrees, credentials, and doctorates in education celebrated their achievements as the final graduates to take part in winter ceremonies before the University moves to a single annual Spring Commencement.

President Robert S. Nelsen acknowledged the graduates’ years of hard work and dedication, and recognized friends, family members, and faculty for their support.

At the end of each ceremony, Nelsen engaged graduates in a final teaching moment. “One last tradition,” he said of moving the graduation cap tassel. “Why do we move the tassel to the left side? Because that is where your heart is – and when you move the tassel, you are putting Sacramento State in your heart forever. … Today, graduates … you are truly Made at Sac State!”
